The new Facebook Search Engine is now getting in the game of SEO – competing with Google as well as other Social Sharing sites. With Graph Search, a new social search engine Facebook is “facing” other search engines head-on. Look for this “beta” product to be rolled out over the next couple of months.
The new search engine ramps up Facebook’s ongoing competition with Google, which is the leader in Internet search. The search engine also presents a number of potential new revenue opportunities for Facebook.
Accoring to Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg the new Graph Search product gives Facebook users a way to find things within the website as never before. You can look for private information – things that wouldn’t normally turn up in a Google Search.
I’m sure that a lot of Facebook users – me included – would like a way to find pages and places about things that interest me. With Graph Search – this is now possible and makes Facebook more relevant than ever before.
In this article by Tomio Geron with Forbes, who attended the press conference in SanFrancisco Zuckerberg states – “Graph search is designed to return the answer, not links to an answer.” Very interesting little jab at our friends at Google.
You can search for people, photos, places and interests – allowing you to drill down and find people with similar likes and interests as well as pictures of people and places that you want to learn more about. Facebook emphasized that the privacy settings are still in place. BIG TIP – check your privacy settings to avoid being found (unless you want to be!).
Additionally, you can search on things you and your friends have liked in the past – as Geron points out this is something that the other search engines don’t have and is a HUGE opportunity for revenue for Facebook.
