The Panda and Penguin updates by Google forced many to rethink their SEO strategies – no more paid links, no more content scraping or duplication, no more of many of the strategies that reputable SEO companies have been steering clear of for years. Now in a post-Hummingbird world, the algorithm has, ironically considering its source, forced even more people to adopt SEO strategies that put less focus on the “S” and the “E” – the search engines.
Internet Marketing is not about satisfying the search engines. After all, the search engines are not those who will buy your products! Your primary concern for your website should be, and should always be, the visitor to your site.
Your site visitor is looking for compelling, fresh, interesting and informative content. How they find that is down to your link building strategy, (which must not include paid links) and your online marketing for your website.
Relevant and Unique Content Adds Credibility and Drives Traffic
By producing high quality content and promoting it effectively, you’ll attract inbound links from those who want to provide their own visitors and contacts with authoritative and relevant content. The more you produce and share of this level of information, the more links you will attract. Over time these will build into a powerful, natural resource for the search engines to consider in their ranking algorithms.
On the other side of the coin, you want to link to valuable content for your own visitors too. So you should identify other, related websites that have a good volume of quality traffic, and are reputable, respected content publishers. Do not just link to their homepage, but monitor what they are writing about, which posts or articles are popular, and create content that quotes and links to sections of those articles.
You do not need to agree with every word in the articles you link to from your website. In fact, it can be better to differ in your opinions, challenge what is being said, dispute the information, offer data that disproves a theory or conclusion. There is so much you can do to build on any article already out there, and attract new traffic and commentary on this extra and unique information. It will also build confidence in your site visitors that you are an authority on the topic.
