One of the primary techniques of many SEO web marketing companies and self-proclaimed gurus is SEO linkbuilding. There is no doubt that building links for your client can be effective at times. However, it has also resulted in lots of web content that offers little incentive or encouragement for consumers to actually click through to the intended landing page.
Online consumers today have a lot to choose from—in order to influence them to click on a link that leads to your landing page, you need compelling content containing the link that makes that content, and subsequently the link itself, more valuable to the consumer.
With hundreds of thousands of companies engaging in SEO linkbuilding, the focus now is on credibility and reputation. Savvy web marketers that are on top of the latest Google trends and SEO changes are focusing more on brand awareness. That’s really what gets results rather than simply throwing out a bunch of links across the web like bait and hoping to get a bite!
SEO Linkbuilding on Reputable Sites
Google has their own criteria for ranking websites. Links coming from what they determine to be reputable sites have a lot more worth than those found on random blogs, article mill sites, directories, link farms and other sources. However, while quality SEO linkbuilding may serve to increase a website’s ranking, it still doesn’t mean that consumers will click on them.
What Makes a Consumer Click on a Link?
Consumers seeking information through search queries are much more likely to click on the resulting links than they are to click on a link in an article or blog post. That is because an article typically already fulfills the request for information that the consumer was searching for in the first place. Presenting a brand that appears to have expert knowledge of the subject increases brand awareness and encourages click-through. This is more effective than a generic link plopped into the middle of a sentence!
