Just as a copywriter might experience the dreaded writer’s block, your SEO efforts can also experience similar problems. SEO is never an exact science (Google is always keeping us on our toes!), but it’s easy to fall into the trap of using the same methods we are used to rather than looking at the bigger picture. Just remember, when SEO techniques get stale, traffic and conversion results will follow suit.
Here are some tips that will help you get really creative with your SEO and make sure it stays fresh and effective.
1. Always Invest In Quality Content
Every website or blog deserves to have compelling content. Why? Because your audience is worth it! Content is often what drives a visitor to pick up the phone or click that ‘buy it now’ button and it is most certainly what drives search engine ranking. The problem is that so many people throw up a quick landing page full of quickly chosen keywords and hope it will work. There is also a tendency to focus on technical aspects of the content rather than usability, readability and social sharing potential.
2. Think First And Link Later
There was a time when keywords would dictate how content flowed, but now search engine algorithms and consumer expectations have changed. Content needs to be useful, insightful and high quality. Don’t write your content around your chosen key phrases. Write high quality content first and then build your key phrases naturally into the content retrospectively.
3. Dare To Dream
The reason why so many SEO and content strategies become stagnant is because of the fear of change. But what do you do when one of your competitors releases a great new website? Do you worry about the fact that they are better than you or do you get out your notebook and start brainstorming new improvements for your own website.
4. Watch All Aspects of Your Digital Marketing
Are you “setting and forgetting” your PPC campaigns? Are you continuing to refine landing pages or leaving everything to chance? Are you failing to participate in social media conversations or address poor online reviews? Every area of SEO and online marketing can start to lose momentum if you let it.
Breaking Out Of The Routine
We get used to following a routine and doing things in the same way every time. It’s human nature, and it makes things easier. But easier doesn’t always get results or profits. Try something different. It might not always end up being the best idea ever, but it could give your SEO efforts a boost and introduce you to new marketing methods you hadn’t considered before.
