Verizon Buys Yahoo
You might be familiar with Verizon cable service or from using Verizon Wireless. You might have used AOL back when it was world wide web de rigueur. You might still use Yahoo email or search capabilities. What do these 3 big brands have in common? Verizon bought AOL in 2015 and recently announced that it would be purchasing Yahoo.
What does this mean for digital marketing and search? Verizon is already utilizing AOL’s extensive adtech (ad technology), which controls most of Microsoft’s domestic display, mobile and video ads. With the acquisition of Yahoo, they’re enlarging their ad network and essentially bringing greater ad reach to the table. It will be interesting to see how this impacts pay-per-click advertising, once all the dust settles.
