The Weekly Wrap: Get Your Wallets Out – Google Ads in Local Pack

June 23, 2016

Google: Local pack will now contain ads

On June 21, 2016, at SMX Advanced, Google confirmed that local ads will be part of the Local Pack in the future. They haven’t confirmed a rollout date but have only said that it will happen in the future. This change will be a significant development for business owners and digital marketers – so get out your wallet!

Google has been making a LOT of changes in local search in the past several years. For example, in August of last year, Google reduced the Local Pack from showing seven businesses to showing only 3. Since Google only shows a 3-Pack for local listings, now having 1 of the listings paid changes the game in local search marketing. Watch this space for more information as we learn more!

Google has worked with doctors from Harvard Medical School and the Mayo Clinic to help mobile searchers learn more about their medical conditions. They wanted to provide information for searchers who are experiencing medical issues to help point them in the right direction. This information includes symptoms and related conditions.

If you’re visually inclined (like most of us), then you probably appreciate data visualization. Our brains absorb messages better when they come with related images. Data visualization is huge for marketers and can help take a dry subject like economics and make it unforgettable. Enter Netflix’s Narcos (documentary about notorious drug cartel leader Pablo Escobar) twitter #Cokenomics campaign.
