HTTP vs HTTPS – Which one does Google Favor?
In August 2014, Google let us know that HTTPS was a “light” ranking signal. This meant that showing up on the first page of Google search results was only slightly influenced (about 7%) by whether a site utilized HTTPS protocol. HTTPS adds an extra layer of security via encryption. The researchers at Moz have studied the influence of HTTPS since Google’s initial announcement was made. They found that by June of 2016, many more of the first page Google search results (almost ⅓!) now are HTTPS sites.
